For nearly everyone in the tourism field here, it still feels euphoric to be sharing our country with non Italians.

Those major travel slow downs that plague northern European travel are largely not present in Italy.

Italian airports are not having meltdowns. Flights are not being cancelled. Security lines are normal.

Baggage handlers are not striking or slowing down.  Airports are not telling people to stay home.  And Rome’s Fiumicino airport, known officially as Leonardo da Vinci, has been rated Europe’s Best Airport for the third year in a row.

The incredible high speed train network that connects all of Italy — Rome to Florence in 90 minutes, Rome to Naples in 70 minutes —  is working as beautifully as ever.

Italians aren’t letting Covid get in the way of enjoying life. They wear FFP2 masks correctly throughout their journeys on all high speed trains. Many Italians wear them in all closed places.

If this July 4 you cannot celebrate the giddy joy of being in Italy, come for August 4, or September 4, or October 4, or November 4.   The table is set for you.
