Rome at Christmas

Romans are yearning for 2021.  We are all.

In Covid-time Rome, life at Christmas time continues, with many traditions chiseled deeply by tradition and the season. The buying of the fish for Christmas Eve.  The purchasing of the panettone and the artichokes and the puntarelle.  The walking of the streets to admire lights, squares, architecture.  The eating of the tortellini in brodo for Christmas lunch.  But celebrations this year allow families to invite into their homes a maximum of two guests per day, not counting under-14s, prohibit movement between regions from today until January 6, and ban any movement from your home town or city on Christmas Day, St Stephen’s Day and New Year’s Day, although an exemption is made for towns with under 5,000 inhabitants. You must be home by 10 PM and stay home till 5 AM the following morning; on the first morning of the new year, you must stay home until the bells ring at 7 AM.

In the spirit of a new beginning, I share with you my holiday-time Rome of past years. I hope these pictures bring you joy.

Throughout the holidays, we are always here to coordinate travel gift certificates and begin to plan for your New Year and 2022 travels.  Where do you want to go ?  It would be a holiday delight to hear from you !
